October is one of my favorite months for many reasons. First and foremost, it benchmarks the beginning of the Autumnal equinox. And I LOVE Fall. The colorful trees, crispy Autumn air, the nostalgia of Holidays beckoning around the corner and the seasonal viands. From stone fruits, root veggies and hearty soups and stews. October is the perfect month to host a dinner party. Not too mention Halloween. A whimsical Holiday that lends itself to dark, moody vibes set in the occasional haunted space outfitted with a crackling fire for a late night ghost story.
Using muted dark gray and layering in black linens creates depth and a grounding backdrop for all table top decor. I also love using the deepest blood red tones in these roses, and brushed brass and patina’d metals to add a hardware pop. All of these pieces paired with my favorite Bordeaux wine collection and vintage goblets, a moody color palette is born.
A really nice way to add a noir vintage dimension is to find old liquor bottles at your local flea market and use for vases with fresh herbs and candlesticks. You cant possibly have enough candles at a October feast, so stock up. I like to let the candles burn and casually drip around the vessels that hold them providing a lived in sort of look.
